Listening To Our Souls with Manabendra - August 2015


The 85th Manabendra Jayanthi or the 85th Birth Anniversary of Shri. Manabendra Mukhopadhyay (born on 11th August 1931) was celebrated at the picturesque Mahindra World City's Club Room on the 09th August 2015, with a musical tribute to the legendary singer.  A wonderful selection of songs were presented by the members of Manabendra Smaraney much to the delight of the invitees and attendees.

Aptly named - "Listening To Our Souls with Manabendra", the programme featured a wide variety of songs that included devotional songs, classical songs, rabindra sangeet, nazrul geeti, puratoni gaan, rommyo geeti, adhunik gaan, lok geeti and many more.  The programme also included a dance performance and an Aabritti (Poetry Recitation).


The celebrations began with the lighting of the traditional lamp (Kutthuvilakku) in memory of the legendary singer.  

The Hosts - Kumari. Sumedha Biswas (compering in English) and Shri. Timir Bhattacharya (compering in Bengali) gave a brief introduction and this was followed by the rendition of the invocation song - Prabhu Misha Manisha Mashesha Gunam, by the stalwarts of Manabendra Smaraney.

On behalf of all members, Smt. Gouri Dasgupta and Shri. Sreemanta Kumar Dan presented a portrait of Shri. Manabendra Mukhopadhyay, crafted entirely with charcoal by famous artist Shri. Chunni Dasgupta, to Shri. Asim Sehanobis as a small token of gratitude, for his tireless efforts in making Manabendra Smaraney what it is today.


The event also witnessed the launch of Manabendra Smaraney's own website and dedicated email address.  The details and different sections of the website (www.manabendrasmaraney.in) were explained to all present.

After satisfying the musical palates of all invitees and members, the programme concluded with a delicious serving of lunch.

Raag Anuraag – July 2014


Raag Anuraag, a musical programme, was held on 13th July 2014 at Antara Music Hall, Ashok Nagar, Chennai.  Prior to the commencement of the actual programme, a Condolence Meeting was held in memory of our beloved Founder Member (Late) Shri. Dilip Dasgupta who passed away on 20th April 2014.



The Condolence Meeting was followed by the Annual General Body Meeting of Manabendra Smaraney Trust and thereafter, the much anticipated Raag Anuraag Programme.  An assortment of songs were performed by accomplished and budding singers, accompanied by Karaoke Tracks.  Raag Anuraag was well received and over 50 guests attended the programme.  The performance included songs like Ketaki Gulab Joohi, Dil Hoom Hoom Kare, Aaja Re Pardesi, Yeh Sama Sama Hain, Hume Tumse Pyaar Kitna, Poocho Na Kaise Maine Raine Bitayi, Na Jaane Kyun, Papa Jaldi Aana, Mohe Bhool Gaye Saavariya, Jo Vada Kiya Voh, Baharon Phool Barsao, Dekha Ek Khwaab and many more; all of which were based on different Raagas.

     

    

After entertaining the invited guests for about a couple of hours, the programme concluded after lunch that was hosted by Manabendra Smaraney.

Music Programme at The Bengal Association – April 2014


The Bengal Association, T. Nagar, Chennai held a Musical Programme on 13th April 2014 in memory of prominent singer (Late) Shri. Manna Dey and legendary actress (Late) Smt. Suchitra Sen, both of whom had recently passed away.  Manabendra Smaraney was entrusted with the planning and execution of the entire programme.
 
Dr. Smt. Shruti Jauhari, Mr. Surojit Guha and Mr. Anand Mahadevan were the Special Guest Artistes for the evening.

The programme commenced with our Choir Team performing Aaguner Poroshmoni  and Tu Pyaar Ka Saagar Hain and this was followed by individual performances of our singer members and guest artistes.  The performance included well known melodious numbers like Laga Chunari Mein Daag, Gaane Mor Indra Dhonu, Phaguner Banshi Khani, Is Modh Se Jaate Hain,  Tumi Je Amar, Sur Na Saje, Zindagi Kaisi Hain Paheli, etc., which were ably supported by Shri. Ashis Chatterjee on the Tabla and Shri. Viju Sha on the Keyboard.

The programme was finally rounded off with a wonderful medley of select songs, much to the delight of the about 200 invitees who attended.

20th Anniversary Commemoration – March 2014

A grand musical programme was held on 01st March 2014 at The Raga Sudha Hall, Mylapopre, Chennai to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Manabendra Smaraney, with songs and compositions of Shri. Manabendra Mukhopadhyay.

Dr. Shri. P. V. Krishnamoorthy, the first Director General of Doordarshan was the Guest of Honour for the evening.  Shri. Krishnamoorthy, in his Ninetees, has been the recipient of Rabindra Purashkar from Sangeet Research Academy and is also the composer of the signature tune of Doordarshan.  He has also been associated with Shri. Manabendra Mukhopadhyay during his working years.

Dr. Smt. Shruti Jauhari was invited as the Special Guest for the evening. Shri. Snigdhadeb Sengupta, disciple of Shri. Debi Ranjan Bandopadhyay and Winner of Mega Series “Sa Theke Sa” was invited as the Guest Artiste for the programme.

The programme started with our Choir Team performing Janashakthi Prano Bonnaye and Moyur Konthi Ratero Neele and then featured a ‘Walk Down Memory Lane‘ with snippets of what we have done over the last 20 years, for the benefit of over 150 guests and invitees who attended the programme.  This was followed by individual performances from singer members of Manabendra Smaraney.  The special guest and guest artist rendered some melodious and memorable numbers, much to the delight of the attendees. The songs included Gunomonir Kalo Rupe, O Amar Chandramallika, Chhande Chhande Hiya Dole, Ami Eto Je Tomaye Bhalobeshechi, Pankouri Pankouri Dangaye Eshona, etc., While the songs of Shri. Snigdhadeb Sengupta were supported by his own orchestral troupe, all the other performances were ably supported by Shri. Ashis Chatterjee on the Tabla, Shri. Raja Sha on the Keyboard and Shri. Vicky on the Percussion Pad.


The programme was very well received by all the attendees and invitees present.
